How to Calculate Zakat Using Zakat Calculator

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam, a means of purifying wealth and helping those in need. Using the ABF Zakat Calculator, you can calculate your Zakat accurately and quickly. Follow these detailed steps to ensure correctness:

  1. Cash: Include all cash at home, in bank accounts, and liquid assets available to you.
  2. Gold & Silver: Enter the current market value of all gold and silver you own.
  3. Properties: Include all properties other than your main residence, such as rental properties or land that can be sold.
  4. Pensions & Shares: Include accessible amounts from pensions, stocks, and shares that can be converted to cash.
  5. Other Investments: Include investments such as mutual funds, bonds, or other financial instruments.
  6. Money Owed to You: Include any debts that others owe you which are expected to be received.
  7. Business Assets & Debts: Include the value of your business and subtract any business liabilities.
  8. Unpaid Debts: Subtract any personal loans or obligations that you need to pay.

The calculator automatically computes your net assets and calculates 2.5% Zakat payable.

Tips for Accurate Calculation:

  • Include all assets accurately.
  • Exclude your primary home, personal belongings, and items used for daily life.
  • Double-check any debts owed or to be subtracted to avoid over or under calculation.
  • If unsure about any value, refer to current market rates for gold, silver, property, or shares.

Charity in Islam

Islam emphasizes helping those in need through different forms of charity. Below are some of the most important acts of giving with their significance and Quranic references.

Zakat

Zakat is a compulsory act of worship and one of the five pillars of Islam. It purifies your wealth and supports the poor and needy. “And establish prayer and give Zakat, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves – you will find it with Allah.” (Qur’an 2:110)

Sadaqah

Sadaqah is voluntary charity given at any time, in any amount, to please Allah. It protects from calamities and brings blessings to one’s life. “The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed of grain which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains.” (Qur’an 2:261)

Khairat

Khairat refers to general acts of goodness and charitable giving beyond Zakat and Sadaqah. It reflects a believer’s compassion and commitment to serving humanity. “Whoever does righteousness, it is for his own soul; and whoever does evil, it is against it.” (Qur’an 45:15).

Other Donations

Beyond Zakat, Sadaqah, and Khairat, Muslims are encouraged to contribute to various causes such as education, healthcare, and community development. These donations are a means of continuous charity (Sadaqah Jariyah). “The most beloved deeds to Allah are those that are most consistent, even if small.” (Hadith, Bukhari & Muslim)
